AAA: Stop-start engines save gas, cut emissions

Automatic stop-start systems in automobiles provide a 5% to 7% improvement in fuel economy and a similar reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions, according to new research from auto club AAA.



Based on AAA's research, which was conducted with the Auto Club of Southern California's Automotive Research Center, motorists could save up to $179 in annual fuel costs. That's based on driving 15,000 miles a year in a vehicle that averages 20 miles per gallon with fuel prices at $3.65 a gallon.

2015 Toyota Yaris - $15,670 to start which includes D&H yields 30/37 mpg city/highway with the 5-speed stick.



Available in the same 3 or 5-door hatch form factors, the 2015 Yaris has been tweaked while we all await the real next gen 2016 or 2017 built using a Mazda2 platform at a new Mazda plant in Mexico.



The front view of the refreshed Yaris is a continuation of the designs seen in the latest Toyota sedans including the Corolla, Camry and Avalon. Outside the Toyota design language is readily apparent with the larger but more integrated open mouthed lower grille and slimmer lenses with the highest trim incl. LED DRL accents.



Inside new soft touch materials are said to be used to create a more comfortable cabin although the layout appears to be the same?



To help the Yaris’ wallowing, Toyota stiffened the suspension which is attached to a more rigid body structure. To reduce noise intrusion, more sound insulation and improved aerodynamics are said to help.



The Yaris continues on with 9 standard airbags, including front, side, side curtain and drivers knee. And both front passenger seats include airbags in the forward portion of the driver and passenger seat cushions to prevent occupants from sliding under the seat belts.

Drivetrain



The same 106 hp and 103 lb.-ft. of torque 1.5L I4 mated to a 5-speed MT was supposedly made smoother with an improved hydraulic clutch. The optional decades old 4-speed AT continues on. Expect to see a wide ratio like the Corolla in the next generation.



The fuel efficiency is the same 30/37/33 for the stick and 30/36/32 for the AT as the 2014. Considering a Full size E-segment Sonata ECO has the same combined and higher highway rating then the Yaris with the AT, it shows you how far Toyota needs to go. On a more competitive B/C-segment level, the all-new 2015 Fit offers an even more formidable 33/41/36 mpg rating. That is going to hurt. :(



Trims

Similar to the 2014.

The Yaris comes in base L, premium LE and SE trims.



A/C, 60/40 split fold-down rear seats, quicker ratio steering, power windows with driver’s side auto down, power door locks, a poorly configured three-spoke “tilt-only” steering wheel, DRLs, and 15” wheels with wheel covers are standard on the L grade.



CC, power mirrors, steering wheel audio controls, remote keyless entry, and 15” alloys are std. on the LE.



The SE incorporates projector headlamps and LED DRLs, fog lamps, rear spoiler, gloss black 16” alloys, sport-tuned suspension, solid stabilizer bar, four-wheel discs, leather-trimmed tilt wheel and shift knob, and a unique sport fabric.



All Yaris models received Entune Audio with a 6.1” touch screen, an AM/FM/HD and CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, six speakers, aux audio jack, USB port with iPod connectivity and control, hands-free phone capability, voice recognition, and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology.



The Yaris, a navigation system is available as a dealer-installed option. What that will cost is unknown but it will probably be far more and far less capable than a $100 Garmin.



Vehicle pricing from Southeast Toyota (SET) and Gulf States Toyota (GST) will be higher.

Conclusions



Sales have been falling for years and this minor upgrade will probably not help matters. Not with the all-new 14/15 Versa Note and 15 Fit staring over the field.

Ik volg al een tijdje deze site en lees met veel plezier op dit forum.



Sinds 2007 speel ik al Football Manager en heb sindsdien geen jaar overgeslagen! :*)

Ik heb niet echt een managerstype, zolang ik er maar uitdaging in zie en er lol in heb. De ene keer als clubicoon, de andere keer als clubhopper.



Op een andere site (FM Inside) ben ik al eens een 'managerskrant' begonnen, maar mede door een crashdump heeft dat niet heel lang geduurd. :wall:

Ik wil zeer binnenkort ook op deze site eens een leuk verhaal opzetten. Ik ben momenteel met een heerlijke game bezig (momenteel in 2019), dus ik denk dat ik daar eens een verhaal van ga maken.



Ik ben 17 jaren jong en doe een hotel management opleiding. Verder ben ik gek op voetbal, maar beoefen ik de sport zelf niet meer. Wel ben ik ''Football Manager'' van een plaatselijk E-elftal, iets wat ik met ontzettend veel plezier doe. (Je moet toch ergens beginnen hé :xd: )



Ik ga dit forum nog eens flink verkennen en jullie zullen me vast regelmatig langs zien komen. (y)

Developing In-game Cultures and Societies

First off, if this is an overdone topic here at theRPGSite, I apologize for the redundancy but the "role of flavor" thread got me thinking about this. How do you go about developing culture for your settings? It seems tempting to go with real cultures as an example. The main points (economy, religion, language, aesthetics, technological base, militarism) are provided and can be grafted onto an RPG with relative ease. Players also tend to be more familiar with settings based on what's real so that can ease immersion.



Now I'm not knocking those that do this, as doing so accurately and respectfully takes significant amounts of research and work, but from a world building perspective, it just isn't how I'd set up a game I'd run. And before someone goes ahead and says "this would have no effect on play" and that "most people just want to get with gaming and have a good time," I'd like to say that's more than a bit of a hand wave.



So, if you do like to create new cultures and societies for your games, how do you go about it? Do you consciously take bits here and there from different regions throughout history or do you do it from scratch? Do you have a particularly linear method like starting with an economic base (agricultural? nomadic? industrial?) and move all the way to aesthetic values or do you just get a fairly vivid idea (all people born with a cleft palette are made a part of the priesthood) and move out from there? Does the region where the society exists have an impact on its formation?



Most importantly, how would cultural expectations and norms coincide with party play? Would people look down on dungeon delvers as mere grave robbers who get what's coming to them? Would magic be an accepted part of society or would it only be allowed for a specific caste of people? How would this group interact with a group slightly different or totally alien to them? How does this group treat socially constructed values like property, gender roles, or morality and those that deviate from their standards?

Optimal Acceleration and Coast Speed for Scion tC

Currently I can get 30.5 mpg from my 2006 tC by simply driving 55 mph on the highway, attempting to cruise through red lights, and cutting the engine when stopped at red lights.



I'm really wanting to achieve 40 mpg!



I plan to get a ScanGauge II soon enough, but for now I do not have any direct way to see my fuel consumption.



Typically I slowly and lightly accelerate shifting at 2500 RPM. I'm reading that it may be better to shift at 3000 RPM and floor the throttle while I accelerate.



I can feel the engine running differently between 2500 RPM and 3000 RPM versus 2000 RPM and 2500 RPM. I'm not fully sure what this means or if it's significant.



It is much more fun to accelerate hard and shift at 3k than to accelerate lightly and shift at 2.5k for sure. The tC is a very fun car to drive overall, 160 hp and 160 torque is an interesting combination. It uses the 2AZ-FE engine which is also used in the Camry, so I imagine hypermiling techniques for the Camry is similar to what is needed in the tC.



What should my shift point be? 2.5k or 3k? Maybe 3.5k? Can I tell from looking at a dyno curve?



Should I be going open throttle or feathered throttle to accelerate?



At what speed is it best to coast at? 55mph? 45 mph?



Is there a safe way to pulse and glide on the high way? Does this achieve much more FE than feathering the throttle? What speed would I want to accel up to and glide down to?



My drive has many many hills of varying gradients, I typically keep constant feathered throttle when going through them, is this the correct behavior letting my speed dip during the climb and regain during the descent?
