Just a tease right now but expect something “groundbreaking” when it arrives.

As the current gen moves to the next, GMs buying power and economy of scale should provide a hint as to the future of the automobile.

As seen on every green site on the web, GM announced it will reveal the 2nd generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The 2016 Volt will build on the originals award winning platform.

Looking back, GMs release stated the company has sold more than 65,000 Volt’s since it was introduced in 2010.

Some stats regarding current Volt owners is they drive more than 63 percent of their miles in electric vehicle mode, collectively logging more than 500 million gas-free miles or more than 25 million gallons of gasoline at 20 mpg since the Volt’s retail. Maybe a little aggressive marketing but close. ;)

According to the 2014 J.D. Power Dependability study, the Volt was found to be the most reliable compact car. GM also stated that for the past three years, another publication – not sure which one??? - has reported survey results showing more than 90 percent of Volt owners said they would definitely buy a Volt again.

First Generation Volt Stats

In the 2013 calendar year, nearly seven of 10 new Volt buyers traded in a non-GM vehicle, the majority of which were Toyota Priuses. With Prius’ outselling the Volt 12:1 in recent months, this stat is a bit out of touch.

The real 2016 Chevrolet Volt teaser :)

All of which only hints about the upcoming 2016 Volt heritage and not the new Volt itself. Let's hope we receive a true 5-passenger, rear seat head and leg room for the masses, and a quieter more fuel efficient running engine for the next generation.
