Skype / Google Hangouts at the (live) table

Hey, folks,

We're usually a group that values face-to-face time and tangible gaming accessories like books and dice - it was only this year that I relented and started using a laptop at the table when I run - but recently, one of our regulars landed a gig that's got him on the road 3 weeks out of 4. Rather than just put the campaign on hold, we've started to Skype him in. Mechanically, this means a laptop at the end of the table with an external speaker hooked up, and not much else. So far, it's been surprisingly non-invasive - after the first night of everybody talking JUST A BIT TOO LOUDLY and a few technical issues, we've settled right into gaming with Max Headroom at the end of the table. (I mean, occasionally somebody will use the "draw on face" function to draw dicks on him, but that's just to be expected.) I trust my players not to cheat on rolls, so that's not been an issue (the remoted-in player does usually show us a "20" on camera, but that's just for gloating purposes). I think that if we keep doing it, an online version of the character sheet is in order (especially since the character in question is a spellcaster, which requires its own bookkeeping), but otherwise I'm more than pleased with this little experiment.

Anybody else have any experience "remoting in" to a live table? How did it work for you?
