Another odd HP rehash

So I was thinking about HPs and AC on the ride into work (as you do it's an 11 mile cycle after all).

If HPs aren't physical damage but a mix of luck skill and stamina then how come high dexterity increases your AC rather than gives you more hp?

I mean the fact that you just managed to dodge a blow is surely represented in HP as well as AC so isn't there some confusion here?

If we took all the stuff that gave you AC bonus through skill and made those HP benefits, and kept all the stuff that gave you AC bonuses due to providing actually increased "armour" wouldn't that be a much cleaner logical break?

You would have to decide if magical protection bracers/rings etc provided armour or avoidance of course and so give them either a HP buffer or a AC improvement.

An interesting thing would be that magical "avoidance" stuff that added to your HP could be expressed as subtracting damage from hits (in effect providing an ablative HP buffer on each blow) and so would appear to be armour absorbing damage whereas infact within the HP paradigm it would actually be giving you additional dodge/parry skills.
