Inspiration, free association and google searches.

I used to just brainstorm, but that article helped me to focus my brainstorming.

I've been kinda blocked for adventure writing lately. (I don't have a group at the moment, I'm just keeping my hand in) And I sometimes go google image searching for inspiration.
I went through every image in my inspiration folder, and typed out a very quick, less than a sentence impression of each image. Like "Dragon runes" or "The party splits up". Whatever bubbled into my head. I then numbered them all (came out to 170something adventure elements) and proceeded to RNG 5 elements, and then a further group of 5 in case I needed elaboration or alternates. It came out rather well, and got me writing a scenario quickly.

Like-a-this-

55 Illegitimate reign
139 Dragon runes
71 Dragon riders
84 Ballroom
112 Mountain pass

21 Ironic tragedy
166 Standing before the king
101 Mountain carved into a statue
147 Giants in the sea
47 Fairies as help and hinderance

You don't have to take every entry literally. For example, I doubt I'll come up with a use for "ballroom", but I might.

Just wanted to share that. :D I found it fun to come up with an adventure scenario from random bits, and to process that inspiration folder into a bit more helpful way.
