The Honda Accord and Civic were the two most popular vehicles with individual California car buyers in 2014, again with an asterisk. The Accord was California's most popular vehicle with individual buyers in 2014, followed by the Prius family and Civic as the second and third most popular new vehicles.
Among all new vehicle registrations, California car buyers purchased 71,578 Accords, 71,210 Prius, 67,295 Civics, 66,960 Camrys and 57,728 Corollas in 2014.

4Q and 2015 Forecast for California Light Duty Vehicles Sales
The California new vehicle market continued its steady growth path in the Fourth Quarter of 2014 with new light duty vehicle sales up 8.5. The California market has now fully recovered from the recessionary low point in 2009.
New light vehicle registrations in 09 were just above 1 million units. This years predicted total of 1.91 million is 84 percent higher.
The predicted total of 1.9 million new retail and fleet cars and trucks should provide some perspective as to how much California matters. With the entire U.S. Auto Sales projected to reach 17.0 million in 2015, the Golden State accounts for 11.2 percent of the nations total sales results.
