Legend for £10 is a great book and a real bargain. |
Land of Ice and Stone is a Legend setting based in the Old Stone Age, in the southern Europe of the Upper Paleolithic. It contains three races, Long Men, corresponding to the Cro-Magnons, Short Men, corresponding to modern humans and Red Men, corresponding to the Neanderthals, each with its own Cultural Background. A few setting-specific professions and cults are included, along with descriptions of the land, the beasts and the cultures of the people. Finally, it contains three scenarios, one of which is a scenario setting.
Why did I choose the setting?
I have been a fan of the Earth's Children series of books, set in the same period and have long thought that the Legend/RQ/BRP family needed a supplement set at that time.
Why a Prehistoric Setting?
As a big fan of Alternate Earth, I would like to see a series of supplements covering all the major ages of mankind. So, Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and beyond. The Lower Paleolithic is just too basic for a reasonable supplement, so it all starts with the Old Stone Age.
Why Legend?
I am a big fan of RuneQuest and have played it for over 30 years. RQ6, the latest version, is an excellent product. I have written for RQM (RQ4) and BRP before, but have found that Legend is at just the right level for me. It is complex, without being over-complicated, is quick and fun. Also, it has a licence that makes it very easy to write supplements for.
Can we use this with other D100 games?
Yes, of course. It should be easy enough to use with RQ6, BRP and other systems in the same family. I tend to write for a halfway system, anyway, being encumbered with many years of RQ play.
