The all-new 2016 Hyundai Tucson – Pricing and EPA TBA.

The Tucson is built around Hyundai’s ‘New Thinking, New Possibilities’ mantra.

2016 Hyundai Tucson Exterior

The new Tucson adopts the taller and wider proportions and profile of an SUV.

The front of the All-New Tucson is dominated by the Hyundai’s all-new signature hexagonal chrome trimmed grille and wraparound LED headlamps to create a distinctive identity. A wing-shaped appearance to the front bumper and LED DRLs gives the Tucson a unique sport like style and its wide and stable track.

By moving the A-pillar back – cab rearward – the cab disconnects from the long hood and accentuating the sleek profile. The directional shape of the wheel arches provide movement while standing still.

Bold vertical face with focused projector lamps and unique LED DRLs within wraparound lenses.

Something completely unexpected and new to car design is the ‘Z’ character-line above the rear wheel. Along with what appears to be a 0 radius 3D deep character line running from the front fender flare to the Z while running upwards above the door handles, this is rather exciting. Cannot wait to see it in person however.

The rear end has a clean design with horizontal lines that flow from the rear wheel arches and which are accented by slim tail lights.

A nice looking exterior imho.

Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer at Hyundai Motor Group:

Quote:

“Design expresses passion and it is transforming our brand. The All-New Tucson has an athletic presence achieved through flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and most importantly, our newest generation hexagonal grille - our brand signature.”

2016 Hyundai Tucson Interior

Hyundai states that the all-new interior is comprised of new soft-touch materials across the entire cabin surface. The interior has undergone extensive ergonomic testing to ensure ease of use. The modern simplicity of the center console is underlined by its horizontal orientation, and there is the option of Wine Red leather.

2016 Hyundai Tucson Drivetrain(s)

While Europe will receive upwards of 5 different engine configurations including a 133 hp (1.6-litre GDI) or 174 hp (1.6-litre T-GDI) – plus three diesel options: 113 hp (1.7L TD), 134 hp (2.0L TD) or 181 hp (2.0L high power), I suspect we will see the Sonata ECO’s 178-hp 1.6L GDI I4 with 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. We might also see a 200+ hp 2.0L GDI-T as well. Both guesses on my part at this point in time.

Would love to see the 2.0L TDs though. ;)

2016 Hyundai Tucson Platform

The All-New Tucson is built on a completely new platform with generous interior volume. Since this was a Korean/European centric release, it also delivers a substantial 18.1 cu. ft. of cargo volume behind the rear seats when upright. Not sure about Cargo volume with the rear seats folded down. Yet.

New convenience features within the all-new Tucson include heated and ventilated front seats, with longer seating cushions – hot damn, a manufacturer is getting it!!! – for enhanced taller driver support and comfort. A smart powered tailgate (which opens at the approach of the key-holder) and Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS) with parallel and bay parking function increase everyday usability.

2016 Hyundai Tucson Safety

The all-new Tucson will have an Autonomous Emergency Braking system available when it arrives. This system includes three operation modes: pedestrian, city and inter-urban – which triggers automatic braking whenever it detects an unsafe closing speed with a person or vehicle in front, from low to high speeds.

In addition, a Lane Keeping Assist System corrects the steering to avoid unintended lane departure, and the Rear Traffic Cross Alert system uses radar to scan a 180-degree area behind the vehicle, alerting the driver to any approaching cross-traffic. The Blind Spot Detection helps monitor traffic around the car, while the Speed Limit Information Function monitors local overhead and roadside speed limit signs and provides reminders. The Active Hood System raises the vehicle’s hood to cushion the impact shock in a frontal collision with a pedestrian or cyclist.

Hyundai will manufacture the all-new European Tucson in the Czech Republic whereas the U.S. offering will probably continue to be built at the Ulsan Korea facility just like the current Tucson.

The U.S. Tucson and its details will be revealed at this year's NYIAS in NY City in early April. Availability? I would guess late summer or early fall of 2015.
