Just joined an ongoing 5e dnd game where the gm said make a level 4 character with the basic rules.
So I found it insanely easy to create a new character, and the flaws/traits/ideals/etc/etc.. stuff works well for me to crystalize a new character personality.
In a short time I had a brand new level 4 fighter, with a criminal background.
The trait stuff provided a wealth of info as a core to what the character was all about.
Mechanically the system seems easy.
So four pc's screwed around for a while at the inn, and then ventured out to the keep on the borderlands, greedy for treasure, and tried to sneak into a cave.
Ran into some ochre jellies and one pc attacked with his sword, splitting it into two jellies! uh oh!
While in pitched battle with the ochre jellies my character got blindsided by an Owlbear!
Awesome!
The game session was smooth, with no need to look up rules during play.
