Hello to all D$W members and friends,
Got juice? We all have some form of juice in each of our vehicles and around the house but not necessarily always in the refrigerator. Our upcoming D$W Meet No. 44 will explore where this juice comes from batteries. In previous D$W Meets members Eric Powers, Wayne Mitchell, Dan Garlock and Ben Nelson have all spoke on various aspects of hybrid batteries but none has presented the entire range of vehicle batteries. This D$W Meet on Saturday August 9th at the Greenfield Public Library from 9am to 1pm will address this important area.
Our guest speaker and D$W member will be Dr. Ronald C. Miles, recently retired Senior Electrochemist from Milwaukee based Johnson Controls Power Solutions. In his over 25 years of work at JCI and 14 years of work at Olin Corporation, Dr. Miles has authored or co-authored over 23 patent
applications, has been cited in 182 patent applications and holds 17 patents with most of these patents related to battery systems, testing, monitoring and management.
Dr Miles will offer a PowerPoint presentation of current vehicle battery technologies in lead acid, nickel metal hydride and lithium ion batteries. After break, we will have an open Q $ A session on current technology and battery energy storage and recycling, and may briefly touch on upcoming battery chemistry such as nickel zinc, nickel iron, aluminum air, zinc bromine, sodium sulfur as well as fuel cells.
Since our D$W group has always put a premium on the saying that knowledge is power, this D$W Meet should not be missed. If youve ever had the 5 Ws and H (Who, What, Where, When, Why and How) questions on vehicle batteries, Dr Miles should answer them all and look into the future as well.
One last thing, as we see fuel costs fluctuate from $3.50 to $4, we encourage all of D$W members to invite a friend, co-worker, relative, neighbor or just about anyone you know that drives to this or any D$W Meet. It'll change their lives, make them safer drivers, create a cleaner environment, lessen driving stress and most of all save them money on fuel and maintenance costs...all for FREE!
So lets all Pay it Forward and we hope to see you at the Meet,
Marie, Justin and Bradlee Fons
