WHICH? CAR survey shows Auris and Auris hybrids the most reliable in their segment.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - July 27, 2014
2014 Toyota Auris Hybrid – It would be a 50 mpg combined rated vehicle if it were available here.
Almost 50,000 British drivers covering more than 58,000 cars added their voice to the latest 2014 Which? Car Survey regarding the quality of their vehicles. Revealed was that the Toyota Auris Hybrid was rated on top of its segment. The Prius scored strongly against rivals although I do not have an exact score.
The results may have some error built in as 54 percent of the surveys were completed by owners of gasoline cars, 44 percent from turbo diesel car owners and just 2 percent from hybrid owners.
Overall Toyota tied with BMW as the most reliable brand in this year’s car brand survey.
Which? Car Reliability Overall Results
The Citroën C1 supermini was rated as the most reliable new car of 2014, with a reliability rating of 99.3% over the first three years.
BMW and Toyota took joint manufacturer honors with two outright wins from the eight classes considered.
Six of the eight highest-scoring new car models had no reported breakdowns last year.
On the bottom was the Hyundai iX20 turbo diesel with a score of just 75.2 percent.
'Hybrid cars continue to score well, plus there's an overall trend for petrol engines being more reliable than diesels.'
Most reliable new cars in each class
Least reliable new cars in each class
Toyota’s hybrid technology has successfully moved from a niche powertrain technology to a mainstream rival for conventional gasoline and diesel engines. Which? Car Guide remarked on the “supreme durability” of the drivetrain in the Auris hybrid helping it earn a 95.8 reliability score.
What does this mean for North American buyers? Not much although it was interesting to see a Citroën on top. Something most of us would probably not have expected.
