Hlep me tie in a homebrew scenario to "Princes of the apocalypse"

Hi all, so I'm running a sort of homebrew scenario loosely based on an introductory 5E scenario about a Sorceror (A PC) hired by his master to retrieve some property from a mad old mage.
So the PC Sorceror hires the rest of the party come along to find the manor house where the the mad mage lives.

The real story is the mad mage has made a pact with Orcus (indirectly) to become a Lich, but he never achieved Lichdom and is something much less...(A sort of disembodied Spirit pretty much).

The twist is a rival Wizard (a necromancer actually) from the PC Sorceror is going along and wants the Sorceror's focus object, as it's a special item tied in with the mad mage. (I won't go into details, just in case my players read here, however feel free to work with this item if suitable)

So ATM, the Necromancer has taken over the Manor House and the Mad mage is a sort of crazy dis-embodied spirit wandering around the manor.

The Necromancer has turned quite a few locals (road guards, farmers etc) into Zombies and has some Ghouls under his control.

I expect the party will do an assault somehow on the manor house.
It's all targeted at about a level 3 party (6 players) by this point.

I didn't get "Princes of the Apocalypse" until after I started running this scenario.. So I need to tie in the largely undead theme of this to "Princes of the Apocalypse", which is a largely Elemental theme.

Any ideas how to do this so after this scenario they can fairly easily justify moving onto "Princes of the Apocalypse" and so it doesn't feel contrived??
