OK, so what does that mean?
Well, I've had a few discussions here about 5E and it's mechanics.
Now I really like the look and feel of 5E in general.
Certainly more than 3E and 4E.
Before I go any further, please keep debates/flaming why you love or hate 5E to other threads here, such as the "Still liking it thread?"
This is purely a request for information, not a debate about the merits and flaws of 5E.
5E still does create some limitations on actions and player/character freedom to complete actions that really out to be possible and make sense when described.
Scenario 1:
Based one earlier discussions, interrupting a spell is kind of tricky due to free actions getting out components and stuff like that.
I like to the idea of a player with a character using a bow saying " OK my character waits to see if that guy in robes starting casting a spell and shoot an arrow at him, hopefully disrupting his spell casting".
I don't want to create some new rule such as forcing a save if you've been damaged in the same round as you cast a spell. But I would like it to be possible to roll to hit on the mage, maybe hitting his hands (components, focus item) or whatever so make it had to finish the spell.
I don't mind this shot having to be taken at disadvantage, as it'd be a pretty specific shot.
however in this scenario, the mage could very well use a free action to get out spare components or whatever to just continue the spell.
Scenario 2:
The Ogre has his back to a character, the player says, "great, I want to hamstring him", cutting at his lower legs and causing him to trip.
Its there a non rule breaking way to achieve this? Not counting using backstabs/lots of damage to just bring him down.
I appreciate if using facing rules you'll get advantage on the attack.
Just things like this really.
What I'm hoping to achieve is seamlessly run 5E without changing any rules but make it looser than the rules seem to imply. Although the ruls are pretty loose as it is.
I know this sort of thing can be easily achieved in games where you have hit locations and attacks described in more detail (such as Legend, RQ6 etc).
but I LIKE 5E a lot and it runs fast and is lots of fun.
I just want to open up the player freedom more without breaking the game.
I kind of allow these things already really by "making it up as I go along" if I feel it doesn't break much, but it'd be nice to know if I just missed something or just carry on as I go.

5E: I like it BUT: I want it to be more "loose"
