Ok, I've been thinking about really getting back to some roots here. I started out with the Mentzer Red Box and don't have any of the old books left from BECMI.
But I'm wanting to start a campaign in that version of D&D. However it seems the Modlvay/ Cook B/X is easier to get a hold of and I know the rules are pretty much the same as the Mentzer version with a more straight forward layout in B/X(none of the choose your own adventure tutorial).
I would like to incorporate the Companion rules from BECMI into it for the domain management and possibly mass combat.
I don't plan to go above Companion.
So other than the re-work of the thief abilities what are the other pitfalls in trying to incorporate Companion with the older Moldvay/Cook B/X?
Is the bestiary between the three books going to be good enough for most typical FRPG or would I need to supplement it with another monster book?
Thank you as always for your advice.
