I'm currently trying to make a dragon enemy that has the 'tail constrict' feat, from the D & D 3.5 draconomicon for use in my Pathfinder campaign.
So far, I'm running constriction (for a constrictor snake, for example)as:
1. Snake attacks target
2. Snake bites
3. Snake grapples
4. Snake constricts following successful grapple
In the following round, I would make a grapple check for the snake, and if successful, apply constriction damage, grab damage, and then move/pin/damage. This is because the snake has both grab and constrict abilities, and so grab damage is applied on top of constrict damage.
When using snatch, say with a huge dragon:
1.Dragon attacks target.
2. Dragon bites.
3. Dragon grapples.
4. Dragon applies additional bite damage, provided the target is 3 sizes smaller than the dragon.
In the following round, I would only apply the snatch damage and move/pin/damage, as the dragon doesn't constrict therefore doesn't get automatic 'grab' damage.
However, I am confused with the tail constrict rule. Does it function the same as snatch, or as a constriction attack (which it would seem to be, judging from the name of the feat)?
Please help.
