E6 and 5E

SO MANY Es.

Anyhow, I'm a big fan of E6 in 3e, mainly because it narrows focus down to a specific 'subgenre' -- the low-ish fantasy where a bunch of scrub town guards are always a danger and you don't get spells that turn cities into tropical fruit or whatever.

Now, on the plus side, bounded accuracy and other elements of 5e will apparently keep threats in 5e relevant over many levels. That's cool. But there are still incredibly powerful spells that come up over time.

Given my interest in less overwhelming magic in a campaign, anyone think the answer is going to probably be 'yeah, keep doing E6,' or is there any good indications there will be other measures to take?
