A big part of 5e's track is to be a lighter more easily used rule set. The multiple rules tomes (PHB 5.niner and DMG elventy two) looks like it's going to be a thing of the past. This got me thinking of how the pendulum has been shifting for a bit towards lighter rules, and how some games seem to have collapsed under their own weight.
My own thoughts turned to the Hero system and how much it went in the direction it did. I was a huge fan of 4th edition BBB, and read every edition after. The game now seems like a poster child of listening to the small, yet hard core fan base that eventually led to it becoming too daunting.
What other games do you think have become compromised because they listened too much to a small, but vocal group?

What other games could learn from 5e?
