An Alternate OWoD (Vampires Replaced by Revenants)

There was an idea I came up with in response to this thread: http://ift.tt/1acwNLW

The OP there asked about what might replace vampires in the OWoD after Gehenna. There was some discussion of ghouls replacing vampires which gave an an idea for an alternative timeline for V:tM where vampires die off in the middle ages and the Revenant ghoul families continue on in their place. I figured I wouldn't clutter up Cryptofblood's thread talking about that idea and decided to make my own thread.

I'll post a few of my ideas, but I'd like to hear suggesting from others and general brainstorming over the idea.

Sometime in the middle ages, the Antediluvians wake up, an early Gehenna of sorts, or perhaps something else. In any case, the vast majority if not all vampires are slain by the elders, leaving a world free of vampires and their influence. The exception are the ghoul families, who are living humans who have vampiric blood flowing through their veins.

These ghoul families survive and find their supernatural prowess increased, perhaps as a side effect of the destruction of vampires, as the power of Caine's blood is conserved.

As time passes, these ghoul families reproduce and spread out, gaining power in the mortal world with their supernatural abilities and long lives and creating their own secret society much like all creatures in the World of Darkness have. As the vampiric Clans did before them, the Revenants have rivalries and form alliances, fighting a shadow battle against each other both day and night.

As these families are old and to some degree insular in inbred, with the leaders of the families having lived for centuries, they are inherently conservative and slow to adapt to the modern world. Some are more progressive though and have some advantages and disadvantages based on this approach.

Vampires are legendary now, with only the very oldest Revenants having ever seen one. There are now myths about where the vampires came from, what they were like, and what happened to them - though most of the facts are now lost to history. Some Revenant families look back upon the vampires almost as gods, who disappeared and may return some day. Others think of them as cruel slave masters who are better off dead. Still others doubt that vampires existed at all and have other explanations for the existence of the Revenant families.

A tentative list of some prominent Revenant families. I'm still trying to think of organizations to place these families into, like the Camarilla or Sabbat. Suggestions are welcome.

Grimaldi - a rich and influential family that maintains close ties to mortals.

Zantosa - hedonists who gain wealth and power to indulge in forbidden pleasures.

Bratovitch - a family far removed from humanity that live in remote old mansions or castles.

Obertus - a family of scholars and scientists, keepers of ancient knowledge and pursuers of new information as well.

D'Habi - a family who worship demons and practice dark magics, they are torn between pursuing temporal power and serving the will of demons.

Ducheski - a highly inbred family of mystics who pay for their mystical prowess with their distance from humanity.

Rafastio - Another family of mystics, though they follow ancient pagan traditions.

Enrathi - once ghouls who kidnapped children for vampiric masters, now they heavily involve themselves in the worst sort of organized crime like human trafficking.

Marijava - a family who highly value stealth, they are known as spies and information brokers, occasionally thieves and assassins too.

Giovanni - the descendants of the ghouled survivors of the Giovanni family.

Maybe it would be good to create a few more or take and tweak some from the cannon.

Any comments or suggestions about this alternative setting idea?
