The engineering team at the Nissan Technical Center in Arizona uses the strange little EV for transporting various tools and parts around, so the affectionately named Sparky essentially acts as a shop truck.

Say hello to Sparky, a Nissan Leaf pickup truck created by engineers at the automaker's technical center in Arizona. The zero-emissions truck started life when the team needed a new vehicle to haul around their tools, resulting in the funky project Leaf.
Nissan durability and reliability engineer Arnold Moulinet said in a statement that he and his team came up with the idea for retrofitting a pickup bed from the Nissan Frontier truck into the all-electric Nissan Leaf hatchback, and decided to try it out. Everything aft of the B-pillars is totally redone, as engineers removed the roof, and rear doors to make for empty space in place of the rear seats and hatch area. Miraculously, the Frontiers bed was the right length, although its width had to be trimmed. They also fitted the rear window from the Nissan Titan pickup behind the front seats, modified the rear taillights, and added some special wheels to the red Leaf to make it stand out even more....
