Over time I've noticed that throughout geekdom (of television shows, movies, comics, video games, tabletop, etc.) certain character types or flaws get lambasted more frequently and with much more venom than others. These are characters that are pretty common and most people seem to take in stride because they ring true and are expected to evolve, but the geeks will often have none of it.
The usual offenders are youthful whinyness, youthful brashness, and youthful cluelessness. Things many people have been and can legitimately struggle to deal with.
By contrast, easily accept and forgive brooding loners, callous scoundrels and sarcastic assholes, even (or especially) if they never evolve.
Is this just my perception, or do geeks really approach certain character flaws differently than average consumers and why?

Do geeks hate certain character flaws more?
