Hey everyone! I'm 17 and bought my ranger back in February. It's a 96 3.0 5 speed w/ 3.45 gearing. It's my DD so I want to maximize my potential mpgs. Right now I've been averaging 20.
Anyone have any advice? The past couple of weeks I've been reading up and using a few techniques, coasting down hills and to stop lights, shifting early (without lugging the engine), Putting just enough pressure on the peddle to maintain my speed, and I've played around with pulse and gliding with pretty good results. My scangauge has shown numbers as high as 25.
My question is how accurate is the scangauge? I can't afford to just top my tank off (I will soon though) every time I need gas (I usually just put 10 or 20 dollars in as I can). So is it okay to assume that these numbers are in the ballpark?
Also I've had a few people tell me to inflate my ties to 45-50 psi (recommended is 35). Is that too much over inflation and will it cause issues?
..Aaand the truck
