First time I buy a roleplaying game... for my wife.
She's the one who saw an illo in the Savage Worlds Deluxe core book and got interested on playing a Western with supernatural elements.
I nominally got it (Reloaded if you must know. I think my Savage Worlds burnout has receded enough to run this) for her but she wants me to GM it at least once. She's played RPGs only very occasionally.
Knowing very little about the setting my first impulse is to severely dial down the somewhat silly alternate history (no "ghost rock", no steampunk bits, American Civil War turns out like our own, etc.) and run it as a mostly historical Western with added discrete, hidden supernatural menaces. Less fantasy and more horror, if you will.
I'd love to read everyone's experiences with Deadlands, Classic or Reloaded, playing or GMing, especially as it relates to the setting.
