I wanted a product to cut my energy bills and I figured that someone would have already made it and had it up for sale by now. Oh no not even close there was one company here in the U.S. that made a basic cage version for the home owner and they stopped making it.
Someone came up with a cloth bag product but it doesn't come close to fool proof if you know what I mean.
I had to go to Amazon.UK to find what I wanted. When it comes in I have to find a seamstress to make me an insulated cover for it.
You are now wondering what I'm talking about well I'm going to tell you.
I have a mail slot in my front door and that is the problem. The mail person either jams the mail in the slot where the outside door is blocked by mail preventing it from completely closing or jams the door up and it doesn't close. Either way I have a twenty four square inch slot open to the elements. Most of the time it usually happens when the temperatures are either in the high eighties or below freezing. Plus even when it is closed I'm still getting some air loss. When I find a Stink bug in the house I know how it got in.
I don't want to give up the convenience of my mail slot but I also want a way to cut my utility bills.
Here is my solution, a mail slot cage. They were originally created to solve the old mail comes in, hits the floor and the dog tears up the mail.

There are plenty of shops around me that do furniture covers so all I really need to look for is the insulated material for the slip on cover.
Also the cage makes the mail slot more secure from someone trying to reach in and unlock the door.
If any of you have a mail slot in your front door here is a solution to that air loss problem.
