2015 Chevrolet Spark - $27,645 to start incl. D&H while continuing to offer an 82 miles AER.
Washington, DC - At the Washington Auto Show this morning, Chevrolet announced it will begin selling the slow selling Spark EV in Maryland this spring.
In Maryland, the Spark EV can be picked up for as little as $17,845, after the $7,500 federal and $2,300 Maryland tax credits.
Chevrolet requires service training certification before a dealer is authorized to sell the Spark EV because of its unique propulsion system so do not expect to see it at all Maryland dealerships.
The Spark EV is also sold in California and Oregon, where sales totaled 1,145 throughout all of 2014.
Spark EV Overview
Chevrolet Spark EV uses a powerful in-house designed GM-built motor and drive unit allowing the Spark EV to do the 60 mph dah in just 7.2 seconds.
Given the small footprint at just 12.2 ft. in length and reasonably tight turning radius of 33.8 ft., it can be parked in a lot more places.
Also given its small footprint, I think it immediately turns off prospective buyers as I have heard this statement form my wife while looking at the Yaris, Prius c, Mazda2, Mirage, Fiesta, Spark and even the Fit.
When equipped with the optional SAE combo charger for DC fast charging – add $750 USD, the Spark EV can be charged from flat to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. Aero refinements, unique wheels and tires and an active shutter system on the grille opening improve range. Energy storage comes from a 19-kWh Li-Ion battery pack.
The four-passenger, five-door Spark EV is available in 1LT and 2LT trim levels.
Other std. features include Chevrolet MyLink Infotainment system with a seven-inch-diagonal color touch-screen, smartphone connectivity, Pandora, Stitcher, TuneIn global internet radio and BringGo full-function navigation (requires smartphone app purchase). For those with compatible iPhones, the system brings the Siri Personal Assistant into the car.
OnStar 4G LTE with available Wi-Fi hotspot (includes three-month/3GB trial period) is also standard along with remote start/cabin pre-conditioning, heated driver and front passenger seats, push-button start.
It is Spartan but packed full of technology.
The Spark EVs warranty includes three-year/36,000-mile warranty on everything, Eight-year/100,000-mile traction battery warranty, Five-year/100,000-mile transferrable powertrain warranty that includes emergency roadside assistance and courtesy transportation and a Six-year/100,000-mile rust-through warranty.
Of all the B-segment micros, the Spark has my eye. Not my wife’s or the rest of the family but it has my eye. It is cute, small, and easy to park, has the most advanced smartphone integration of any OEM with BringGo, and is reasonably efficient in gas engine form. With the powerful electric motor, it is quick as hell for a B-segment although I have only driven one for a whole block. :(
