5E and Forgotten Realms, which sourcebook?

Seeing as Forgotten realms is the default setting for 5E, what version core world book should I get that's the most compatible with 5E?

I've done a little research and it's understanding that in 5E, the world state has been reverted to where it was in 3E.
am I right in saying this?

I'm, just looking for a general GM world book. I don;t need extreme detail, I can fill in the blanks myself.

Are WotC going to make a 5E forgotten worldbook anytime soon?
Assuming they're not, Which version and specific product should I get?
