Cadillac CT6 PHEV- Pricing, mpg, MPGe and all-electric range will be revealed at a later date.

At the Shanghai Auto Show Cadillac announced that it will release a PHEV variant adding to the upcoming top of the model CT6 sedan.

The 2016 Cadillac CT6 will be the company’s top model with the very latest technology previously unseen in large luxury cars.

The Cadillac CT6 features one of the industry’s most advanced automotive body structures, an aluminum-intensive architecture that incorporates 11 different materials to achieve strength, performance and efficiency practically unmatched among the world’s elite luxury performance sedans.

It is one of the world’s lightest and most agile full-size luxury performance sedans, with dimensions and spaciousness on par with BMW’s short-wheelbase 7-Series, but the approximate weight, agility and efficiency of a BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

All-new Omega architecture features 13 high-pressure aluminum castings in the body structure, creating a lighter, stiffer structure that also enables “bank vault” levels of quietness.

An all-new 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque 3.0L Twin Turbo V6 mated to an 8-speed AT is going to be quick. The turbocharged 2.0L I4 mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission should be reasonably efficient and mated to the PHEV drivetrain will make it incredibly efficient.

Advanced performance chassis system designed to deliver an engaging driving experience – with segment-best ride, handling and isolation qualities – through the use of Active Rear Steer, Magnetic Ride Control and selectable drive modes.

Where it gets really interesting however is from the PHEV variant.

The CT6 PHEV system is designed to provide all-electric driving for most daily commutes, while maximizing fuel efficiency by providing blended power from the engine and battery at higher speeds and higher loads, even when energy is stored in the battery.

The CT6 PHEV leverages General Motors’ Voltec battery program and uses the 18.4 kWh Li-ion battery pack now located between the rear seat and the trunk.

The CT6 PHEV battery system will use the company’s proven liquid cooled/heated active thermal control system that maintains electric range over the battery system’s life.

The battery system can be charged using a Level1 120V outlet or Level2 240V charger. EPA and range estimates will be provided closer to U.S. launch.

The Cadillac CT6 PHEV combines an all-new RWD electric variable transmission (EVT) with exclusively designed motors to provide smooth acceleration.

An excellent looking interior.

The two-motor EVT uses three planetary gears and is mated to the direct injected and turbocharged 2.0L I4. Along with the two-motor system, the combined system is capable of producing total power output of 335 hp and 432 lb-ft of torque.

The CT6 PHEV will feature iBooster and Electronic Stability Program tailored for hybrid electric vehicle regenerative blended braking to provide maximum energy recovery combined with reduced stopping distance and improved fuel economy over traditional regen systems.

The iBooster and ESP-hev technology balance the use of the CT6 electric motors to act as generators to slow the vehicle and capture as much kinetic energy as possible during low-demand scenarios, while blending the traditional hydraulic brakes with the motors in high-demand scenarios.

CT6 PHEV drivers will be able to select among Normal, Sport and Hold modes.

Normal provides ideal balance of performance and maximized EV range and fuel economy.

Sport provides more aggressive pedal mapping for improved off-the-line feel and a stiffer steering response.

Hold allows owners to select when the CT6 PHEV uses its engine, reserving the remaining battery charge for later use. This feature can save the battery charge for city travel, where the CT6 EV mode operates most efficiently.

Loads of rear seat room.

The CT6 PHEV will also feature Regen on Demand, which allows the driver to temporarily regenerate energy from vehicle momentum into electricity and store in the battery pack for later use.

Who would have thought a full-sized Cadillac and efficiency would ever be mentioned in the same sentence. The world is changing quickly and the General is making sure it will be at the front of the pack vs. playing catch up.
